All you need to know before you start enjoying baccarat online
In essence, this game is all about comparing two hands of cards – one assigned to the player, and another to the dealer (also known as “banker”). While this context may look somewhat similar to Blackjack, the action plays out a bit differently since here all cards are dealt all at once and automatically before the game begins. Let’s take it step by step:
1) In this game, betting precedes all the action. As the player, you have to predict which side (you or the dealer’s) will get the best cards or for the round or otherwise you can point out if you feel there might be a tie – and you must place your bet accordingly, to begin with.
2) As the round begins the dealer deals a total of four cards – two for their side and two for the player’s – all of which are placed facing up on the table.
3) The value of the cards for each side is calculated, and the player whose cards are closer to nine is the winner. Depending on whether you bet on the correct winner for the round, you win the wager.
In simple terms, the above three steps essentially summarize a round of this game. However, there are some important particularities involved:
Card Values: The value of each card is unique in this game, so you must pay attention to the rankings and associated points. Here, the only cards that add up to the final count are those marked A through 9. Aces are worth a single point, and the numbered cards up to nine are each worth their face value. All other cars have zero value: that includes 10, J, Q and K. In short, you should focus only on cards A trough 9 when scoring the cards for the round.
Over nine points: If either player or dealer has a hand worth more than nine points, you calculate the numeric sum of both cards and then drop the first digit in the result. So for example, if your hand was a 9 and an 8, the numeric total would be 17 – but the actual value of the hand would be 7; if the dealer’s hand was a 7 and 5, the numerical total would be 12, but the actual value of that hand would only be 2.
Extra card: if your two dealt cards don’t add up to at least 5 points, you are entitled to get a third card.
Once the calculations are done and the winner of the round is decided, you will earn depending on your original bet. If you bet on yourself and won, you double your bet; if you bet on the banker and he wins, you get 95% of proceedings (the missing chunk is the house commission). If you happen to bet on a tie and it happens, you get paid 8x your bet, since this the least likely event.
What is the difference between baccarat and mini-baccarat?
Mini-baccarat plays very much like the original game, except here there is a person taking the dedicated role of dealer – meaning in this case that players don’t have to touch the cards, ever. By contrast, regular Punto Blanco rotates the role of dealer as the rounds go by, which means you have to understand the appropriate rules for when it’s your turn to act as the banker.
