Master Your Online Casino Blackjack Game
Blackjack is a classic casino table game that is played at casinos across the world. You play Blackjack, also known as Twenty One, against the dealer. The aim of the game is to beat the bank or the dealer by getting the most points without exceeding 21.
There are different ways how you can achieve this. You are initially dealt two cards and you can request a 3rdand even a 4thcard to reach the highest score below 22 points. In a brick-and-mortar casino you play Blackjack at a table with other players against the dealer. All players play against the dealer only and not against each other. At an online casino you can play Blackjack in Flash. There is no clearly identifiable dealer present and a new round is initiated whenever you click the ‘play’ button. You can also play with a live dealer at the Live section of your favourite online casino. In this case the dealer will guide your game and other players are free to join the table.
The Basic Rules of Blackjack
Blackjack is played with one up to eight decks of cards and one deck consists of 52 cards. Cards 2 until 9 have the numeric value represented on the card. Jack, Queen and King are 10 points each and Ace cards have a value of 1 or 11 points. The Blackjack, consisting of an ace and any 10-point card is the highest hand and exceeds all other 21-point hands. The dealer will deal you as the player two cards and his/ herself two cards. One of the two cards you receive is dealt face up and the other, the hole card, face down. You can place an insurance bet if the dealer’s first card is an ace. This is a side bet and pays 2 to 1 if the dealer’s second card is any 10-point card. The insurance wager is not allowed to exceed half of the original wager and this side bet is entirely optional. If the dealer hits blackjack with his two cards you lose your bet with exception of the insurance. If you have blackjack as well, the game is a tie, which is called a push. If the dealer doesn’t have blackjack, you have several options to beat the bank:
- You stand, which means you keep the two cards you have in your hand and don’t do anything else.
- Hit; this means you draw a third card and another one if you wish.
- Double; in this case you double your bet and draw one additional card only.
- Split; if you have a pair or any two 10-point cards, you can double your bet and play with two hands. You will be dealt a second card for both cards so you will have two hands of two cards, four cards in total. In most cases you are allowed to re-split up to a total of four hands
- Surrender: you ask for the return of half your bet and don’t play your hand. You only have this option on the initial two cards and on some occasions this bet is not allowed.
As there are many different forms of blackjack there will be variations to these basic betting options. After you and any other players in case of a live table had your/ their turn, the dealer shows his/ her hole card and he/she will draw another card if the total amount of points is 16 or less. If the dealer exceeds 21 points all players who haven’t gone bust win. If the dealer has gone bust any player- you- who has the highest amount of points below 22 wins. The basic rule for you as a player is that you always draw an additional card when your hand value is less than 16.
